The Padres (31-31) scored fewer runs than the Philadelphia Phillies (35-27), 7-5, in the finale of their three-game series at Petco Park. Cal Quantrill (1-2, 4.85) gave up two runs on five hits and no walks with seven strikeouts in five innings. Jay Bruce scored on a Scott Kingery double in the second inning. Bruce hit a solo home run in the fourth inning. In the seventh inning, Cesar Hernandez hit a run-scoring triple, Bryce Harper doubled to drive in Hernandez, and Jean Segura hit a single to score Harper. Adam Haseley doubled to drive in Kingery and Andrew Knapp singled to score Haseley in the eighth inning.
Jake Arrieta (5-5, 4.29) pitched four and two-thirds innings, allowing five runs on seven hits and five walks with three strikeouts. Josh Naylor hit a three-run home run and Wil Myers followed with a solo home run in the third inning. Myers scored on a Ty France single in the fifth inning.
