The Padres (31-30) scored fewer runs than the Philadelphia Phillies (34-27), 9-6, in the second game of three at Petco Park. Chris Paddack (4-4, 2.97) allowed six runs (five earned) in four and a third innings on eight hits and no walks with four strikeouts. Jay Bruce scored on Scott Kingery’s double in the second inning. Bruce hit a two-run home run and Kingery follow with a solo home run in the fourth inning. In the fifth inning, Bruce hit a grand slam. Maikel Franco hit a solo home run in the eighth inning.

Jerad Eickhoff (3-3, 4.14) gave up three runs on four hits and no walks while striking out five in six innings. Ian Kinsler and Austin Hedges scored on a double by Greg Garcia in the third inning. Franmil Reyes hit two solo home runs, one in the sixth inning and another in the eighth inning. Eric Hosmer hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning.
