The Padres (29-26) scored more runs, 5-4, than the New York Yankees (35-19) in game two of three at Yankee Stadium. Eric Lauer (4-4, 4.45) gave up one run on four hits and no walks with four strikeouts in five and a third innings. Gary Sanchez hit a solo home run in the fourth inning. In the seventh inning, a single by DJ LeMahieu scored two and Aaron Hicks ground into a force out that scored the Yankees final run.
Masahiro Tanaka (3-4, 3.20) pitched six innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on nine hits and two walk while striking out seven. Greg Garcia scored on a Manny Machado single and Eric Hosmer hit a three-run home run in the first inning. Garcia’s bunt single drove in Ty France in the sixth inning.
