The Padres (29-27) scored fewer runs than the New York Yankees (36-19), 7-0, in the finale of their three-game series at Yankee Stadium. Chris Paddack (4-3, 2.40) allowed four runs on six hits and a walk while striking out six in five innings. DJ LeMahieu and Luke Voit hit back-to-back solo home runs to lead off the first inning. Gio Urshela hit a solo home run in the second inning. LeMahieu scored on Brett Gardner’s sacrifice fly in the fifth inning. Cameron Maybin stole third base and scored on Austin Hedges’ throwing error in the sixth inning. Gleyber Torres hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning.

James Paxton (3-2, 2.81) made his first start since coming off the Injured List, shutting out the Padres over four no-hit innings, walking two and striking out seven. The Padres only managed four hits overall: three singles and a ground-rule double.
