The Padres (66-49) defeated the Miami Marlins (47-67) by a score of 6-5 in the second game of three at Petco Park. Craig Stammen (5-2, 3.18) opened the Padres bullpen game by allowing four runs on six hits and no walks with two strikeouts in two innings. Jesus Aguilar scored on a Lewis Brinson single and Jorge Alfaro doubled to drive in Isan Diaz & Brinson in the first inning. Miguel Rojas‘ second inning single scored Magneuris Sierra. Sierra scored on a Rojas double in the seventh inning.
Braxton Garrett (1-1, 4.65) gave up five runs on eight hits and a walk with four strikeouts over three and a third innings. Jake Cronenworth‘s double drove in Manny Machado and Austin Nola doubled to score Cronenworth in the first inning. Wil Myers scored in the second inning when pinch-hitter Brian O’Grady ground into a force out. Garrett’s wild pitch to Tommy Pham with the bases loaded allowed Eric Hosmer to score and Pham singled to drive in Myers in the fourth inning. Adam Frazier scored on Nola’s seventh inning single.
