The Padres (30-28) scored fewer runs than the Miami Marlins (20-36), 9-3, in the second of three games at Petco Park. Nick Margevicius (2-6, 5.40) allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits and a walk with one strikeout in three-plus innings. In the fourth inning, Harold Ramirez doubled with the bases loaded to score two and Martin Prado, Miguel Rojas, and Garrett Cooper hit RBI singles. Bryan Holaday hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning. Starlin Castro hit an RBI single and Ramirez ground out to drive in a run in the ninth inning.
José Ureña (4-6, 4.14) pitched six innings, giving up three runs on three hits and three walks while striking out six. Josh Naylor hit his first Major League home run, a two-run shot in the second inning. Greg Garcia scored on Eric Hosmer’s single in the sixth inning.
