Atlanta Braves vs Padres @ Petco Park
September 24-26, 2021
Sometimes things can get a little fuzzy after an entire year of watching baseball from anywhere other than the ballpark. The occasional memory refresher can come in handy. Here’s a reminder of what we may have missed while most of us were still staying at home.
This is The Hangover.
Game 99 (Suspended)
Padres 6, Braves 5 (7 Innings)
Winning Pitcher: Daniel Hudson (5-1, 2.67)
Losing Pitcher: Will Smith (3-6, 3.63)
Save: Mark Melancon (29)
The Padres (57-42) defeated the Atlanta Braves (46-49) by a score of 6-5 in the second game of a rain-shortened doubleheader that was suspended for 65 days and moved to Petco Park from Truist Park in Atlanta. Reiss Knehr started the game on July 21st giving up three runs on one hit and two walks with one strikeout in an inning and two-thirds. Adam Duvall hit a solo home run in the sixth inning.
Bryse Wilson started the game for the Braves by allowing five runs on four hits and four walks with two strikeouts in two innings. Fernando Tatis Jr. hit a solo home run in the seventh inning.
The resumption of the suspended-by-rain-in-Atlanta game was, ironically, delayed for an hour by rain in San Diego.
