The Padres (78-77) were defeated by the Atlanta Braves (82-72) in the second game of three at Petco Park by a score of 10-8 in ten innings, officially eliminating the Padres from a spot in the postseason. Vince Velasquez (3-8, 6.22) gave up two runs on three hits and two walks with three strikeouts in three innings. Dansby Swanson scored on an Ozzie Albies single and Austin Riley singled to drive in Jorge Soler in the third inning. Riley’s fifth inning single scored Albies. Joc Pederson doubled to drive in Travis d’Arnaud and Soler hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning. Eddie Rosario singled to drive in Riley in the ninth inning. Soler double to drive in d’Arnaud and Orlando Arcia scored on a Albies sacrifice fly in the tenth inning.
Huascar Ynoa (4-5, 3.98) allowed seven runs on seven hits and no walks while striking out six in four and two-thirds innings. Adam Frazier led off the first inning with a solo home run. Eric Hosmer hit a solo home run and Wil Myers scored on a Velasquez ground out in the second inning. Manny Machado hit a grand slam home run in the fifth inning with Jake Marisnick, Frazier, and Jurickson Profar on base. Trent Grisham scored on a Victor Caratini single in the sixth inning.
