The Padres (78-78) were defeated by the Atlanta Braves (83-72) by a score of 4-3, getting swept in their three-game series and final games of 2021 at Petco Park. Joe Musgrove (11-9, 3.22) allowed three runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out nine over five innings. Joc Pederson hit a solo home run in the second inning. Travid d’Arnaud‘s double drove in Austin Riley and Ehire Adrianza singled to plate d’Arnaud in the fourth inning. Orlando Arcia doubled in the sixth inning to drive in Pederson.

Jesse Chavez (3-2, 2.27) opened the Braves’ bullpen game with one and a third shutout innings, giving up one hit and no walks with no strikeouts. Wil Myers & Adam Frazier scored on a Jake Cronenworth triple and Manny Machado singled to drive in Cronenworth in the fifth inning.
