The Padres (30-18) were defeated by the Milwaukee Brewers (24-23) in the first game of four at American Family Field by a score of 5-3. Blake Snell (1-1, 4.50) gave up five runs on five hits and three walks with seven strikeouts in three and two-thirds innings. Manny Piña hit a two-run home run in the second inning. In the fourth inning, Avisaíl García hit a solo home run and Keston Hiura & Willy Adames scored on Kolten Wong‘s single.

Brandon Woodruff (3-2, 1.41) threw seven scoreless innings on three hits and no walks while striking out eight. Tommy Pham hit a two-run home run with Jurickson Profar on base and Jake Cronenworth scored on a double by Eric Hosmer in the ninth inning.
