The Padres (74-70) were defeated by a score of 6-1 in the second game of four at Oracle Park with the San Francisco Giants (95-50). Jake Arrieta (5-13, 7.05) gave up three runs on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts in three and two-thirds innings. Buster Posey hit a solo home run in the first inning. Posey scored in the third inning on a errant pickoff throw to first base by Arrieta. Steven Duggar scored on a Tommy La Stella single in the fourth inning. Darin Ruf doubled to drive in Brandon Crawford in the seventh inning. Brandon Belt‘s double drove in Thairo Estrada and Belt scored when Posey reached on a Manny Machado throwing error in the eighth inning.

Anthony DeSclafani (12-6, 3.24) allowed one run on three hits and a walk with three strikeouts in six and two-thirds innings. Jurickson Profar scored on a Trent Grisham ground out in the third inning.
