Sometimes things can get a little fuzzy after an entire year of watching baseball from anywhere other than the ballpark. The occasional memory refresher can come in handy. Here’s a reminder of what we may have missed while most of us were still staying at home.
The Padres (74-69) were defeated by the San Francisco Giants (94-50) in the first game of four at Oracle Park by a score of 9-1. Yu Darvish (8-10, 4.32) gave up eight runs on six hits and three walks with three strikeouts in four innings. Tommy La Stella hit a solo home run, Darin Ruf scored on a triple by LaMonte Wade Jr., and Evan Longoria hit a three-run home run in the first inning. Mike Yastrzemski hit a solo home run and Brandon Belt hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning. Wade scored on a Longoria single in the eighth inning.
Dominic Leone (3-3, 1.41) opened the Giants’ bullpen game with two shutout innings, allowing two hits and no walk with one strikeout. Trent Grisham scored on a double by Fernando Tatis Jr. in the third inning.
