The Padres (41-32) defeated the Cincinnati Reds (35-34) by a score on 7-5 in the third of four games at Petco Park. Miguel Diaz (2-1, 2.78) started the Bullpen Game after Dinelson Lamet had his start pushed back a day. Diaz gave up two runs on three hits and a walk with two strikeouts in two innings. Jonathan India scored on Jesse Winker‘s double in the first inning. A double by Kyle Farmer drove in Tyler Stephenson in the second inning. Tyler Naquin drove in India with a single and Naquin & Winker scored on Eugenio Suarez‘s single in the fifth inning.
Vladimir Gutierrez (3-1, 3.86) allowed five runs on eight hits and four walks with four strikeouts in five innings. Jake Cronenworth hit a two-run home run with Fernando Tatis Jr. on base in the third inning. Manny Machado‘s fourth inning bases-loaded double drove in Tommy Pham, Cronenworth, & Tatis. Ha-Seong Kim came in at shortstop for an injured Tatis Jr. in the fifth inning and hit a two-run home run with Pham on base in the eighth inning.
Joey Votto was ejected for arguing balls & strikes after his at-bat in the first inning along with Reds manager David Bell.
