The Padres (46-50) scored fewer runs, 4-3, than the Miami Marlins (36-58) in the finale of their three-game series at Marlins Park. Dinelson Lamet (0-2, 5.14) gave up three runs (one earned) in four innings on six hits and two walks with five strikeouts. In the second inning, Jorge Alfaro scored on a fielder’s choice by Caleb Smith thanks to a throwing error by Austin Hedges and Neil Walker hit a double to drive in Cesar Puello. Harold Ramirez hit a solo home run in the fourth inning. Brian Anderson hit a walk-off double to drive in Yadiel Rivera with the winning run in the ninth inning.

Smith (5-4, 3.47) allowed two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out seven over five innings. Hunter Renfroe scored on Hedges’ sacrifice fly in the second inning. Fernando Tatis Jr. hit a solo home run in the fifth inning. Manuel Margot scored on Francisco Mejia‘s single in the sixth inning.
