The Padres (34-36) scored more runs than the Colorado Rockies (36-33), 16-12 in 12 innings, in the second game of four at Coors Field. Cal Quantrill (1-2, 5.23) allowed four runs on six hits and a walk with one strikeout in five innings. David Dahl hit a two-run home run in the third inning. Dahl ground out to drive Charlie Blackmon in and Trevor Story scored on Daniel Murphy’s sacrifice fly in the fifth inning. Ian Desmond hit a three-run inside-the-park home run, Dahl singled to score Blackmon, and Murphy doubled to drive in Dahl in the sixth inning. Desmond singled to drive in Brendan Rodgers and later scored on a wild pitch from Matt Wisler in the seventh inning. Blackmon hit a solo home run in the twelfth inning.
Jeff Hoffman (1-3, 7.04) gave up one run in five innings on three hits and two walks while striking out two. Hunter Renfroe hit the first of his three home runs with a solo shot in the second inning. Manny Machado scored on Wil Myers’ ground out and a single by Austin Hedges drove in Eric Hosmer in the sixth inning. Machado hit a solo home run in the seventh inning. Hedges’ double drove in Renfroe in the eighth inning. In the ninth inning, a two-run single by Hosmer drove in Fernando Tatis Jr. & Machado, Renfroe hit a two-run home run, and Tatis Jr. singled with the bases loaded to drive in Myers & Ian Kinsler to tie the game. In the twelfth inning, Austin Allen hit a pinch-hit double to score Tatis Jr., Machado doubled to drive in Allen, and Renfroe hit a two-run home run – his third of the game.
