The Padres (33-31) scored more runs than the Washington Nationals (28-35), 5-4, in the second game of four at Petco Park. Nick Margevicius (2-6, 5.02) pitched three and two-thirds innings, shutting the Nationals out on three hits and no walks with three strikeouts. Yan Gomes singled to drive in Howie Kendrick and Trea Turner doubled to score Brian Dozier & Gomes in the seventh inning. Dozier scored on Adam Warren’s wild pitch in the ninth inning.
Erick Fedde (1-0, 2.93) allowed three runs on five hits and no walks while striking out five in six innings. Fernando Tatis Jr. scored on Manny Machado’s groundout in the first inning. Tatis Jr. hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning. In the ninth inning, Eric Hosmer tripled and scored on Josh Naylor’s single, Naylor stole second base, and then scored on Austin Hedges’ walk-off single.
