The Padres (23-24) scored fewer runs than the Pittsburgh Pirates (24-20), 6-4, in the final game of four at Petco Park. Cal Quantrill (0-2, 5.40) allowed five runs on eight hits and two walk with two strikeouts in five innings. Josh Bell hit an RBI single and Colin Moran hit a three-run home run in the first inning. Melky Cabrera’s single in the fifth inning drove in Bryan Reynolds. Moran hit a single to score Reynolds in the eighth inning.
Joe Musgrove (3-4, 3.67) gave up four runs (three earned) in six and a third innings on four hits and a walk while striking out four. Alex Dickerson drove in Greg Garcia with a single and Hunter Renfroe hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning.
