The Padres (23-22) scored fewer runs than the Pittsburgh Pirates (22-20), 5-3, in the second game of four at Petco Park. Joey Lucchesi (3-3, 4.28) allowed two runs on five hits and no walks while striking out six in seven innings. Brian Reynolds hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning. Melky Cabrera’s double in the eighth inning drove in Cole Tucker. In the ninth inning, Tucker and Colin Moran hit back-to-back RBI singles.
Jordan Lyles (4-1, 1.91) gave up one run on five hits and a walk with twelve strikeouts in seven innings. Franmil Reyes hit a solo home run in the first inning. Ty France hit a two-run home run in the ninth inning.
