The Padres (62-72) scored fewer runs than the San Francisco Giants (66-68) in the second game of three at Oracle Park, 8-3. Dinelson Lamet (2-3, 4.24) allowed three runs (two earned) in five innings on three hits and two walks while striking out ten. Brandon Belt hit a two-run home run in the first inning. Mike Yastrzemski hit a solo home run in the fifth inning. Yastrzemski scored on an Evan Longoria single, a Joey Rickard single drove in Belt, and Kevin Pillar‘s sacrifice fly scored Longoria in the seventh inning. Belt doubled to drive in Austin Slater and Longoria’s double drove in Belt in the eighth inning.

Madison Bumgarner (9-8, 3.62) gave up one run on four hits and two walks with nine strikeouts in seven innings. Manny Machado hit a solo home run in the fourth inning. Austin Hedges scored on Greg Garcia‘s ground out in the eighth inning. Eric Hosmer singled to drive in Machado in the ninth inning.
