Sometimes things can get a little fuzzy after a couple of days of partying with fellow Padres fans in the Gaslamp. The occasional memory refresher can come in handy. Here’s a friendly reminder of what we may have missed while we were drinking.
The Padres (62-71) scored more runs than the San Francisco Giants (65-68), 5-3, in the first of four games at Oracle Park. Chris Paddack (8-7, 3.69) gave up one run on five hits and no walks while striking out eight over seven innings. Brandon Belt hit a solo home run in the fourth inning. Donovan Solano scored when Evan Longoria ground into a bases-loaded double play in the eighth inning. Brandon Crawford scored on a Stephen Vogt double in the ninth inning.
Dereck Rodríguez (5-7, 5.49) gave up five runs in five innings on eight hits and no walks with three strikeouts. In the third inning, Manuel Margot hit a solo home run and Josh Naylor scored on a double by Eric Hosmer. Austin Hedges hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning.
