Sometimes things can get a little fuzzy after an entire year of watching baseball from anywhere other than the ballpark. The occasional memory refresher can come in handy. Here’s a reminder of what we may have missed while most of us were still staying at home.
The Padres (57-42) defeated the Miami Marlins (41-56) by a score of 3-2 in the first game of four at loanDepot park. Blake Snell (4-3, 4.93) gave up one run on three hits and three walks with eight strikeouts over six-plus innings. In the seventh inning Joe Panik singled to drive in Isan Díaz and Starling Marte drew a bases-loaded walk to score John Curtiss.
Anthony Bender (1-1, 2.20) opened the game for Miami with a scoreless, hitless inning with one strikeout. The Padres got to reliever Jordan Holloway (2-3, 3.21) over the next three and two-thirds innings, scoring three runs (two earned) on three hits and five walks with one strikeout. Eric Hosmer scored on Jurickson Profar‘s groundball out in the second inning. Profar singled to drive in Tommy Pham in the fourth inning. Fernando Tatis Jr. scored on a sacrifice fly by Manny Machado in the fifth inning.
