The Padres (25-17) scored more runs than the Oakland Athletics (23-14) in the finale of their three-game series at Oakland Coliseum, 5-3. Garrett Richards (2-2, 4.50) gave up three runs in seven innings on seven hits and no walks while striking out nine. Matt Olson singled to drive in Tommy La Stella in the first inning. La Stella scored on another Olson single in the third inning. Sean Murphy hit a solo home run in the seventh inning.

Mike Fiers (4-2, 4.93) allowed three runs on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts in five innings. Eric Hosmer singled to drive in Trent Grisham and a Manny Machado sacrifice fly scored Fernando Tatis Jr. in the third inning. Jake Cronenworth doubled in the fourth inning to drive in Wil Myers. Tatis Jr. hit a two-run home run with Grisham on base in the seventh inning.
