The Padres (24-17) scored fewer runs, 8-4, than the Oakland Athletics (23-13) in the second game of three at Oakland Coliseum. Chris Paddack (3-4, 4.75) allowed four runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out six in four and two-thirds innings. Tommy La Stella & Mark Canha scored on a triple by Matt Olson in the first inning. In the second inning, a single by Jonah Heim drove in Stephen Piscotty and Heim scored on a double by La Stella. Heim singled to drive in Piscotty and Ramón Laureano hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning. Piscotty single to drive in Canha in the seventh inning.

Sean Manaea (3-2, 5.09) gave up one run on four hits and a walk with five strikeouts over five innings. Jurickson Profar scored on a Eric Hosmer groundout in the third inning. Austin Nola hit a solo home run and Jake Cronenworth‘s single drove in Wil Myers in the eighth inning. Trent Grisham scored on Manny Machado‘s ninth inning sacrifice fly.
