The Padres (28-24) scored more runs, 19-4, than the Toronto Blue Jays (20-32) in the second game of three at Rogers Centre. Cal Quantrill (1-2, 5.14) allowed three runs on two hits and two walk while striking out nine in six innings. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. hit a solo home run in the second inning. Justin Smoak hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning. Freddy Galvis’ single in the eighth inning drove in Jonathan Davis.
Edwin Jackson (0-2, 9.00) gave up seven run on seven hits and a walk with two strikeouts in four innings. Greg Garcia scored on Josh Naylor’s RBI double in the first inning. Wil Myers and Ian Kinsler hit back-to-back solo home runs in the second inning. Austin Hedges hit a grand slam home run in the fourth inning. In the fifth inning, Myers drew a bases-loaded walk that brought Manny Machado home, Kinsler then drew another bases-loaded walk to score Eric Hosmer, and Hedges was hit by a pitch that drove in Hunter Renfroe. Renfroe hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning. In the seventh inning, Myers scored on Garcia’s ground out and Naylor’s single drove in Kinsler. Hosmer hit a solo home run, Renfroe and Myers hit back-to-back solo home runs, and Phil Maton singled to drive in Garcia in the eighth inning.
