The Padres (11-11) scored fewer runs than the Cincinnati Reds (8-12), 4-2, in the third game of their four game series at Petco Park. Eric Lauer (2-3, 4.67) gave up three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five in five innings. Jose Iglesias’ single in the first inning scored Jose Peraza. Tucker Barnhart hit an RBI single in the fourth inning to drive in Scott Schebler. In the fifth inning, a sacrifice fly by Yasiel Puig scored Eugenio Suarez. Jesse Winker hit a solo home run in the seventh inning.
Luis Castillo (2-1, 1.47) allowed one run on four hits and a walk with nine strikeouts over six innings. Eric Hosmer was directly responsible for both Padres’ runs, hitting a solo home run in the second inning and singling in the eighth inning to drive in Fernando Tatis Jr.
