The Padres (11-10) scored fewer runs – 3-2 in 11 innings – than the Cincinnati Reds (7-12) in the second of four game at Petco Park. Matt Strahm (0-2, 3.05) had the longest outing by a Padres starting pitcher so far in 2019, pitching eight innings while allowing one run on two hits and no walk with five strikeouts. Eugenio Suarez hit a solo home run in the first inning. Derek Dietrich hit a go-ahead two-run home run in the eleventh inning off of Craig Stammen.
Anthony DeSclafani (0-1, 5.59) gave up one run on two hits and a walk with six strikeouts in six innings. Fernando Tatis Jr. hit a solo home run in the third inning. Tatis Jr. scored the Padres’ second run on Eric Hosmer’s ground out in the eleventh inning.
