The Padres (61-70) were shut out by the Los Angeles Dodgers (87-47), 9-0, in the second game of three at Petco Park. Cal Quantrill (6-5, 3.99) gave up eight runs on eight hits and three walks with one strikeout in four and a third innings. Joc Pederson hit a solo home run in the third inning. In the fourth inning, Matt Beaty singled to drive in Cody Bellinger and Beaty scored on a Enrique Hernandez single. A.J. Pollock scored on a Corey Seager single, Will Smith‘s single drove in Bellinger & Seager, and Beaty scored on Hernandez’s ground rule double in the fifth inning. In the ninth inning, Pollock hit a solo home run off of Ty France.
Walker Buehler (11-3, 3.03) shut the Padres out over six innings on four hits and two walks while striking out eleven. Russell Martin pitched the ninth inning for the Dodgers.
