The Padres (52-38) defeated the Washington Nationals (42-44) by a score of 9-8 in the finale of their four-game series at Petco Park. Yu Darvish (7-3, 3.09) gave up six runs on eight hits and no walks with two strikeouts in three innings. Trea Turner hit a solo home run and a Yan Gomes single drove in Juan Soto & Starlin Castro in the first inning. A Josh Bell double scored Turner, Soto scored on a Castro sacrifice fly, and Josh Harrison singled in Bell in the second inning. Turner hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning.

Max Scherzer (7-4, 2.66) allowed seven runs on five hits and a walk while striking out seven in three and two-thirds innings. In the fourth inning, Fernando Tatis Jr. hit a solo home run, Wil Myers drew a bases-loaded walk to score Manny Machado, relief pitcher Daniel Camarena hit a grand slam home run (his first Major League hit) with Trent Grisham, Eric Hosmer, & Myers on base, and Tommy Pham scored on a Tatis Jr. single. Pham’s sixth inning double drove in Myers. Grisham hit a game-winning single in the ninth inning to score Pham.
