The Padres (49-34) were defeated by a score of 5-4 by the Cincinnati Reds (40-40) in the finale of their three-game series at Great American Ballpark. Ryan Weathers (3-2, 2.63) allowed two runs on five hits and four walks with five strikeouts in four innings. Weathers was removed following a fifty-two minute rain delay between the fourth & fifth innings. Alejo Lopez scored on a ground out by Luis Castillo and Kyle Farmer scored on a double by Jonathan India in the second inning. Aristides Aquino doubled to drive in Lopez in the fifth inning. Farmer hit a solo home run and Tyler Stephenson hit a bases-loaded single to drive in India in the ninth inning.
Castillo (3-10, 5.08) gave up three runs on five hits and three walks while striking out six over six and a third innings. Manny Machado scored on Jurickson Profar‘s fifth inning double. Machado & Eric Hosmer scored on a seventh inning single by Tommy Pham. Hosmer reached on a Lopez throwing error allowing Machado to score in the eighth inning.
