Padres vs Philadelphia Phillies @ Citizens Bank Park
July 2-4, 2021
Sometimes things can get a little fuzzy after an entire year of watching baseball from anywhere other than the ballpark. The occasional memory refresher can come in handy. Here’s a reminder of what we may have missed while most of us were still staying at home.
The Padres (49-35) were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies in the first game of three at Citizens Bank Park by a score of 4-3 in ten innings. Chris Paddack (4-5, 4.56) gave up three runs on four hits and a walk with five strikeouts over seven innings. Odubel Herrera scored on a J.T. Realmuto ground out and Jean Segura scored on a Bryce Harper ground out in the first inning. Didi Gregorius hit a solo home run in the fifth inning. Brad Miller‘s tenth inning double drove in Andrew McCutchen.
Zack Wheeler (6-4, 2.05) threw seven and two-thirds shutout innings on four hits and no walks while striking out nine. In the ninth inning, a Fernando Tatis Jr. double drove in Jake Cronenworth and Jurickson Profar‘s double scored Tatis Jr. & Trent Grisham.
