The Padres (34-23) were defeated by a score of 6-1 by the Chicago Cubs (32-23) who completed the sweep of their three-game series at Wrigley Field. Dinelson Lamet (1-0, 2.50) allowed one run in four innings on four hits and a walk while striking out six. Anthony Rizzo came home when Rafael Ortega reached on an Eric Hosmer fielding error in the fourth inning. Rizzo doubled to drive in Nick Martini and Joc Pederson in the fifth inning. In the seventh inning, Sergio Alcantara scored when Ian Happ reached on a fielding error by Jake Cronenworth and Javier Baez hit a two-run home run.
Tommy Pham & Ha-Seong Kim were both injured and removed from the game after colliding while pursuing a fly ball in the fourth inning.
Adbert Alzolay (4-4, 3.62) gave up one run on three hits and a walk with seven strikeouts over five innings. Kim singled to drive in Cronenworth in the fourth inning.
