The Padres (34-22) were defeated by a score 4-3 in the second game of three against the Chicago Cubs (31-23) at Wrigley Field. Ryan Weathers (2-2, 2.06) allowed four runs on seven hits and a walk with two strikeouts over five innings. Patrick Wisdom hit a two-run home run in the second inning. Wilson Contreras hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning.
Kyle Hendricks (6-4, 4.62) gave up three runs on seven hits and no walks while striking out four in six innings. In the fifth inning, Victor Caratini hit a solo home run and Tommy Pham hit a two-run home run with Weathers on base.
Fernando Tatis Jr. left the game in the sixth inning with what was reported as right oblique tightness.
