The Padres (21-16) defeated the Colorado Rockies (12-24) in the first game of a seven-inning doubleheader and the second game of three at Coors Field. Yu Darvish (3-1, 2.08) gave up one unearned run on two hits and a walk with two strikeouts over four innings. Garrett Hampson scored on a single by Trevor Story in the first inning. Story scored on Ryan McMahon‘s double and a sacrifice fly by Elias Diaz drove in McMahon in the sixth inning.

Jon Gray (4-3, 2.93) allowed four runs (one earned) on three hits and three walks while striking out six in five and two-thirds innings. Trent Grisham bunted for a hit with the bases loaded in the fifth inning to drive in Tucupita Marcano. Victor Caratini hit a grand slam home run in the sixth inning with Tommy Pham, Marcano, and Patrick Kivlehan on base.
