The Padres (14-12) defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks (12-12) by a score of 12-3 in the second of two games at Chase Field. Ryan Weathers (1-0, 0.55) pitched one inning with a walk before being pulled due to left arm soreness. Nick Ahmed‘s double in the second inning drove Eduardo Escobar in. Wyatt Mathisen hit a solo home run in the fourth inning. Asdrubal Cabrera scored on an Ahmed single in the sixth inning.
Riley Smith (1-1, 4.76) allowed three runs on six hits and no walks while striking out none in four-plus innings. In the fifth inning, a single by Ha-Seong Kim drove in Jurickson Profar & Victor Caratini, Kim scored on Fernando Tatis Jr.‘s single, and pinch-runner Joe Musgrove, Tatis Jr. & Trent Grisham scored on a Manny Machado bases-loaded triple. Jake Cronenworth hit a solo home run in the sixth inning. In the eighth inning, a Kim double drove in Profar, Caratini scored on Wil Myers‘ single, and Kim came home on a Tatis Jr. sacrifice fly. Jorge Mateo hit a two-run home run — his first Major League home run — with Eric Hosmer on base in the ninth inning. Diamondbacks third baseman Cabrera pitched in the ninth inning and recorded the last two outs.
