The Padres (74-68) were defeated by the Los Angeles dodgers (91-53) 8-0 in a sweep of their three game series at dodger Stadium. Blake Snell (7-6, 4.20) pitched two-thirds of an inning before leaving the game with left adductor tightness. Corey Seager hit a solo home run in the fourth inning. Mookie Betts hit a solo home run in the fifth inning. Max Muncy doubled to drive in Gavin Lux and Justin Turner hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning. Betts was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Will Smith and Cody Bellinger scored on a Muncy sacrifice fly in the eighth inning.
Max Scherzer (14-4, 2.17) threw eight shutout innings — not allowing a baserunner until Eric Hosmer‘s double with one out in the eighth inning — with nine strikeouts. Scherzer reached the 3,000 career strikeout mark with a fifth inning strikeout of Hosmer.
