The Padres (74-65) defeated the Los Angeles Angels (69-71) by a score of 8-5 in the finale of their two-game series at Petco Park. Yu Darvish (8-9, 3.95) allowed one run on three hits and a walk with seven strikeouts in six innings. Brandon Marsh scored when Phil Gosselin reached on a throwing error by Manny Machado in the fourth inning. Juan Lagares hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning. Jo Adell hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning.

Mike Mayers (4-5, 4.34) gave up two runs on three hits and a walk with a strikeout in one and two-thirds innings as the Angels’ bullpen game opener. All eight Padres’ runs came in the second inning. Adam Frazier doubled to drive in Wil Myers, Jake Cronenworth singled to score Darvish, Fernando Tatis Jr. drew a bases-loaded walk to score Trent Grisham, Eric Hosmer drew a bases-loaded walk to score Cronenworth, Myers drew a bases-loaded walk in his second plate appearance of the inning to score Machado, a wild pitch by Jake Petricka to Frazier scored Tatis Jr., and Frazier singled to drive in Hosmer & Myers.
