The Padres (71-64) were defeated by a score of 6-3 in the first game of three at Petco Park with the Houston Astros (79-55). Jake Arrieta (5-12, 7.04) allowed three run on three hits and a walk with three strikeouts in five innings. Carlos Correa hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning. Kyle Tucker hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning. Jose Siri scored on a single by Jake Meyers in the ninth inning.
José Urquidy (6-3, 3.42) gave up two runs on five hits and a walk with four strikeouts in four and a third innings. Ha-Seong Kim scored on a Manny Machado single in the third inning. Tommy Pham doubled to drive in Trent Grisham in the fifth inning. Wil Myers scored on a single by Adam Frazier in the sixth inning.
