The Padres (68-57) defeated the Philadelphia Phillies in the second game of three at Petco Park by a score of 4-3 in ten innings. Joe Musgrove (8-8, 3.04) allowed one run on three hits and two walks while striking out nine in six innings. Odubel Herrera led off the game with a solo home run in the first inning. In the eighth inning, with the bases loaded, Tim Hill hit Didi Gregorius to score Aaron Nola and one out later Austin Adams hit Brad Miller with a pitch to score Jean Segura.

Nola (7-7, 4.33) gave up three runs (two earned) on two hits and two walks with eleven strikeouts in eight and two-thirds innings. Nola had a perfect game until Trent Grisham reached on an error, stole second base, and scored on Manny Machado‘s single — the Padres first hit — in the seventh inning. Jake Cronenworth hit a game-tying two-run home run off Nola with two outs in the ninth inning. Adam Frazier scored on a wild pitch by Connor Brogdon in the tenth inning.
