Philadelphia Phillies vs Padres @ Petco Park
August 20-22, 2021
Sometimes things can get a little fuzzy after an entire year of watching baseball from anywhere other than the ballpark. The occasional memory refresher can come in handy. Here’s a reminder of what we may have missed while most of us were still staying at home.
This is The Hangover.
Game 125
Padres 3, Phillies 4
Winning Pitcher: Héctor Neris (2-5, 3.74)
Losing Pitcher: Blake Snell (6-5, 4.82)
Save: Ian Kennedy (20)
The Padres (67-57) were defeated 4-3 by the Philadelphia Phillies (62-60) in the first of three games at Petco Park. Blake Snell (6-5, 4.82) gave up three runs on two hits and two walks with nine strikeouts in five innings. Jean Segura scored on a J.T. Realmuto double and Bryce Harper hit a two-run home run in the third inning. Andrew McCutchen doubled to drive in Segura in the eighth inning.
Matt Moore (2-3, 5.93) allowed two runs on three hits and four walks with four strikeouts in four and a third innings. Manny Machado hit a two-run home run with Tommy Pham on base in the third inning. Fernando Tatis Jr. was hit by a pitch with the bases-loaded, bringing Eric Hosmer in to score in the eighth inning.
Padres manager Jayce Tingler, Machado, and Padres development coach Ryan Flaherty were all ejected in/after the bottom of the eighth for arguing balls and strikes with home plate umpire & verified unrepentant douchebag Doug Eddings.
