The Padres (62-48) were defeated by the Oakland Athletics (61-48) in the second game of two at Oakland Coliseum by a score of 5-4 in ten innings. Joe Musgrove (7-7, 2.87) allowed one run on two hits and three walks with five strikeouts in six innings. Jed Lowrie hit a solo home run in the second inning. Ramon Laureano scored on Matt Chapman‘s single and Yan Gomes singled in Tony Kemp in the ninth inning. Matt Olson‘s tenth inning double drove in Mark Canha & Starling Marte.
Frankie Montas (9-8, 4.10) gave up three runs on eight hits and no walks while striking out eight in six innings. Victor Caratini scored on an Adam Frazier single in the third inning. A double by Trent Grisham drove in Eric Hosmer and Caratini singled to drive in Grisham in the fourth inning. Ha-Seong Kim scored in the tenth inning when Tommy Pham reached on a fielder’s choice.
