Sometimes things can get a little fuzzy after an entire year of watching baseball from anywhere other than the ballpark. The occasional memory refresher can come in handy. Here’s a reminder of what we may have missed while most of us were still staying at home.
The Padres (62-47) defeated the Oakland Athletics (60-48) in the first of two games at Oakland Coliseum by a score of 8-1. Blake Snell (5-4, 5.24) allowed one run on six hits and three walks with six strikeouts in five innings. Starling Marte hit a solo home run in the fifth inning.
Sean Manaea (8-7, 3.26) gave up five runs on eight hits and no walks with four strikeouts in four and a third innings. Tommy Pham led off the game with a solo home run in the first inning. In the second inning, Jake Marisnick singled to drive in Austin Nola, Ha-Seong Kim scored on a Pham single, and Marisnick came home on a Jake Cronenworth single. Nola hit a two-run double in the fifth inning to drive in Manny Machado & Wil Myers. Trent Grisham singled with the bases-loaded to score Machado & Eric Hosmer in the seventh inning.
