The Padres (15-12) scored more runs, 8-7 in ten innings, than the Texas Rangers (10-14) in the finale of their two-game series at Petco Park. The Friars swept the four-game season series. Dinelson Lamet (2-1, 1.89) pitched five innings, allowing two runs on two hits and three walks with nine strikeouts. Jose Treviño hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning. Treviño, Scott Heineman, and Nick Solak scored on Danny Santana‘s double in the seventh inning. Treviño’s single in the eighth inning drove in Joey Gallo. Solak hit a game-tying solo home run in the ninth inning.
Kyle Gibson (1-2, 4.73) gave up five runs on six hits and three walks while striking out three in five innings. Wil Myers‘ single in the first inning drove in Manny Machado. Eric Hosmer hit a grand slam home run — the Padres fourth grand slam in as many consecutive games, the first time in Major League history that has ever been done — with Austin Hedges, Fernando Tatís Jr., and Machado on base in the fifth inning. Ty France and Hedges hit back-to-back solo home runs in the eighth inning. Jake Cronenworth‘s single and an error by Heineman in the tenth inning brought Myers home with the winning run.
