The Padres (42-44) scored fewer runs, 7-5, than the San Francisco Giants (39-47) in the finale of their three-game series at Petco Park. Cal Quantrill (2-2, 4.66) gave up three runs on five hits and a walk with four strikeouts in four and a third innings. Evan Longoria hit a two-run home run and Alex Dickerson hit a solo home run in the third inning. In the sixth inning, Kevin Pillar scored on Donovan Solano‘s double, Pablo Sandoval‘s pinch-hit double drove in Solano, Sandoval scored on a double by Brandon Belt, and Austin Slater singled to drive in Belt.

Shaun Anderson (3-2, 3.86) allowed four runs in four innings on eight hits and a walk while striking out three. Franmil Reyes scored on Wil Myers‘ single and Hunter Renfroe came home on Austin Hedges‘ single in the second inning. Reyes scored in the third inning on Renfroe’s double. Fernando Tatis Jr. hit a solo home run in the fourth inning. Renfroe hit a solo home run in the eighth inning.
