Sometimes things can get a little fuzzy after a couple of days of partying with fellow Padres fans in the Gaslamp. The occasional memory refresher can come in handy. Here’s a friendly reminder of what we may have missed while we were drinking.
The Padres (42-42) scored fewer runs, 13-2, than the San Francisco Giants (37-47) in the first of three games at Petco Park. Logan Allen (2-1, 4.24) gave up six runs in four-plus innings on seven hits and two walk with three strikeouts. In the fourth inning, Evan Longoria‘s double drove in Tyler Austin and Longoria scored on Austin Slater‘s triple. Austin hit a bases-loaded double to drive in Jeff Samardzija & Donovan Solano and Buster Posey‘s double scored Brandon Belt & Austin in the fifth inning. Joe Panik scored on a single by Belt in the sixth inning. In the seventh inning, Longoria and Austin Slater hit solo home runs. In the eighth inning, Solano scored on a wild pitch by Robert Stock and Kevin Pillar hit a three-run home run.
Samardzija (5-7, 4.32) allowed two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out six in eight innings. Fernando Tatis Jr. scored on Manny Machado‘s sacrifice fly (to the second baseman, again) in the sixth inning. Josh Naylor‘s double in the seventh inning drove in Francisco Mejia.
