The Padres (42-43) scored fewer runs than the San Francisco Giants (38-47), 10-4, in the second game of their three-game series at Petco Park. Matt Strahm (3-7, 5.42) allowed seven runs on eleven hit and a walk with six strikeouts in five innings. Donovan Solano led off the game with a solo home run in the first inning. Evan Longoria hit a solo home run in the second inning. Kevin Pillar scored on Austin Slater‘s double in the fourth inning. In the fifth inning, Longoria hit a three-run home run and Pillar scored on another Slater double. In the eighth inning, Alex Dickerson scored on Longoria’s double, Buster Posey came home on a Pillar ground out, and Longoria scored on a single by Mike Yastrzemski.

Tyler Beede (2-3, 5.64) gave up one run on seven hits and no walks while striking out four over seven innings. Franmil Reyes hit a solo home run in the second inning. Wil Myers hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning. Manuel Margot scored on Ian Kinsler‘s sacrifice fly in the ninth inning.
