The Padres (20-17) scored fewer runs than the New York Mets (17-19) in the second game of three at Petco Park, 7-6. Cal Quantrill (0-1, 3.60) allowed two runs on seven hits and two walks with five strikeouts in four and a third innings. Amed Rosario singled in Jeff McNeil and later scored on a single by Pete Alonso in the first inning. In the seventh inning, Alonso singled to drive in McNeil, Rosario scored on Michael Conforto’s sacrifice fly, and a double by Brandon Nimmo drove in Alonso. Alonso hit a go-ahead two-run home run in the ninth inning.
Noah Syndergaard (2-3, 5.14) pitched six innings, giving up five runs (four earned) on nine hits and a walk while striking out five. Franmil Reyes scored on Eric Hosmer’s ground ball in the first inning. Reyes hit a solo home run in the third inning. Ty France hit his first Major League home run with a two-run shot in the fourth inning. Hosmer scored on a single by Hunter Renfroe in the sixth inning. Greg Garcia scored on Reyes’ single in the ninth inning.
