The Padres (68-80) scored fewer runs than the Colorado Rockies (64-85), 11-10, in the second game of three at Coors Field. Eric Lauer (8-9, 4.60) gave up six runs (four earned) in two and a third innings on six hits and two walks with two strikeouts. In the second inning, Pat Valaika scored on a Tony Wolters double, Trevor Story singled to drive in Wolters, and Peter Lambert scored on Daniel Murphy‘s single. With two outs in the third inning, Charlie Blackmon hit a solo home run, Garrett Hampson scored on a single by Valaika who took two extra bases on a fielding error by Josh Naylor, Wolters singled to drive in Valaika, Murphy singled to score Wolters, and a double by Nolan Arenado drove in Story & Murphy. Story scored on a double by Murphy in the fifth inning. Murphy’s single drove in Wolters in the seventh inning.

Lambert (3-6, 6.98) allowed five runs on five hits and three walks with no strikeouts over five innings. Wil Myers‘ double drove in Greg Garcia & Eric Hosmer in the first inning. In the fifth inning, Garcia’s ground out scored Austin Hedges, Nick Martini hit a triple to drive in Seth Mejias-Brean, and Hosmer ground out to score Martini. Luis UrΓ­as doubled to drive in Naylor, Manuel Margot hit into a bases-loaded ground out to score Hedges, and Manny Machado hit a three-run home run.

Hosmer and manager Andy Green were both ejected by the third base umpire in the fifth inning.
