The Padres (56-64) scored more runs, 7-5, than the Tampa Bay Rays (71-51) in the finale of their three game series at Petco Park. Cal Quantrill (6-3, 3.23) allowed two runs on three hits and a walk with four strikeouts in five and a third innings. Tommy Pham hit a two-run home run in the first inning.
Darren Beeks (5-2, 4.02) gave up five runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out six in five innings. Francisco Mejía scored on Greg Garcia‘s single and Luis Urías came home on Quantrill’s single in the second inning. Urías doubled in the fourth inning to drive in Eric Hosmer and Mejía. Hosmer hit a solo home run in the fifth inning. Wil Myers scored when Urías was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the seventh inning. Myers singled in the eighth inning to drive in Manuel Margot.
