Sometimes things can get a little fuzzy after an entire year of watching baseball from anywhere other than the ballpark. The occasional memory refresher can come in handy. Here’s a reminder of what we may have missed while most of us were still staying at home.
The Padres (37-25) defeated the Chicago Cubs (33-27) by a score of 9-4 in the first game of three at Petco Park. Ryan Weathers (3-2, 2.44) allowed three runs on five hits and a walk while striking out four over five innings. Kris Bryant & Anthony Rizzo scored on Jake Marisnick‘s bases-loaded single & a throwing error by Weathers and Patrick Wisdom scored on a sacrifice fly by Sergio Alcantara in the fourth inning. Ian Happ hit a solo home run in the seventh inning.
Adbert Alzolay (4-5, 4.06) gave up four runs on five hits and five walks with four strikeouts in three innings. Tommy Pham scored on Eric Hosmer‘s ground out in the first inning. Manny Machado‘s second inning sacrifice fly drove in Victor Caratini. Brian O’Grady hit a two-run home run with Jurickson Profar on base in the third inning. In the sixth inning, Pham reached on a fielder’s choice that scored Caratini and Machado hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Ha-Seong Kim. Machado hit a solo home run, Jake Cronenworth came home on Hosmer’s single, and O’Grady doubled to drive in Hosmer in the eighth inning.
