The Padres (16-13) were defeated by the San Francisco Giants (17-11) by a score of 7-1 in the finale of their three game series at Petco Park. Joe Musgrove (2-3, 2.38) gave up six runs (five earned) on four hits and two walks with six strikeouts in five innings. Kurt Casali scored on a single by Tommy La Stella and Mike Tauchman hit a three-run home run in the third inning. La Stella’s triple drove in Kevin Gausman and a ground out by Wilmer Flores scored La Stella in the fifth inning. Steven Duggar scored when Tauchman drew a bases-loaded walk in the ninth inning.
Gausman (2-0, 2.04) allowed one run on six hits and a walk with six strikeouts in six innings. Fernando Tatis Jr. hit a solo home run in the first inning.
